Buddy and I hiked Savage Hill this morning. I took a couple of videos and love that we have areas in town that I dubbed “the quiet places” just this morning. Uncrowded trails where I can take Buddy off-leash and work on his recall. I did have the thought that I hope I don’t run into a bear (or moose or big cat) while on these hikes in the quiet places.
Not long after that thought, as I was walking and Buddy fell behind (he does that when he smells a smelly smell) I heard a growl. OMG! Buddy was staring at something. I’m very lucky he’s a breed that watches and evaluates before acting. I called him to come, and got louder and louder until it finally broke his concentration. He came. I think I saw a big porcupine through the vegetation and wouldn’t it be great to have a picture to go along with this story but it’s more important that Buddy learned that when something growls you move along.
