Here are some random things captured on Facebook that I want to remember.
It’s fun watching Buddy learn and grow. Yesterday he found his voice, refusing to go in a certain direction, sitting at alert, and letting out a tiny growl. I stared into the woods, looking to see what he saw. A bear, moose, coyote, fox? The only thing I saw, after about a minute, was a little bird about the size of a chickadee, flitting from branch to branch in a low bush. Fierce farm dog in training!

I just said to Buddy, “you’re a tired boy.” And he went into his crate and plopped down. Omigosh he is so smart. I always said Pepper (my Border Collie mix) understood English. Looks like Buddy does, too!

I actually just said to my puppy “this is NOT a democracy. It’s a kingship* and I’M the king.*
*Technically I should have said monarchy and queen.

I heard Buddy’s second growl (it’s such a soft little sound) tonight. Kind of freaky as all around us is woods and the light falls off so you can’t really see all that much. But turns out the thing he was growling at wasn’t in the woods. It was on the deck. It was a propane tank covered with snow. Looked a little bit like an alien snowman. I don’t blame him. Should have gotten a picture but we walked over to it and I cleaned it off to show him what it was. #facingOurFears #fierceLittlePuppy

If anyone in the near (or maybe even far) vicinity of Matthews Lane heard a puppy barking like he was being hurt, that was just Buddy. I was scraping ice off the driveway and steps with a shovel. He was not liking that one bit. I don’t really understand why, but I did feel like people were going to think I was beating him or something.

Buddy isn’t really doing the inside house stairs yet. We have a colonial with full sets of stairs. He actually did manage to climb the ones from the first floor to the second floor yesterday, with encouragement. I don’t know that he could go down yet. Anyhow, if one of us goes up or down the stairs, once we go out of sight he runs to the other set of stairs looking for us. (We keep the door to the basement open for the heat from the pellet stove to help heat the first floor.) Clever pup, making that connection even though it’s a little “off.” Hahahahaha. He’s amusing.

I don’t know if he scratched his nose (it doesn’t look like a wound) or if Voldemort was involved. It’s too late to rename him….

Buddy just saw me floss my teeth for the first time. And, I kid you not, he gave me a new look for him. Something along the lines of “Good God, woman, what on earth are you doing?!!!”

Buddy’s fur on his back is starting to get waves. Ever-so-subtle, but shades of his coat to come.
