I went to a Beth Moore conference this past weekend. If you don’t know Beth Moore, you don’t know what you are missing. She is funny, she is insightful, and she is a wonderful Bible teacher, mining gold from the scriptures.
The title/topic of the conference was “Different.”
But because my servant Caleb has a different spirit and follows me wholeheartedly, I will bring him to the land he went to, and his descendants will inherit it. – Numbers 14:24
Caleb trusted God and His promises while others got lost in their human fear.
What does it mean to be different?
When you are different, you stand out. But that doesn’t mean you necessarily stand out in a bad or weird way. There is standing out in a way where people take a second look, and wonder what makes you the way you are.
Followers of Jesus. If we really follow what Jesus teaches us, wholeheartedly and not halfheartedly, we are going to look different. That may offend some. But it makes others take a second look.
Like this guy. I don’t know if he’s a Christian or not, but his actions surely did align with Jesus’ teachings. Makes me wonder if I could do the same.
I look forward to the continuing journey to figure out how to follow Christ and His message which is antithetical to the messages this world shoots out at us. And even antithetical to some of what church teaches us. (Yup, that’s what I said. Me, who loves church.) There’s a lot of noise coming at us from all corners telling us what we should believe. And I don’t think anybody has it completely figured out.
And so, a little over a year ago I sought out to dump what I’ve been taught about God and figure out who He is from scratch. This is just between me and Him, with Him in the lead.
A wholehearted journey to a different spirit.
