I Need to Break Him

Oh boy.  Tonight Andy came home and asked if I wanted to go to the high school with him and walk Columbus while he ran.  I thought that would be a good idea.   I could work on the not pulling more than I can on our morning walks.

I realized something.  Columbus wants to be in control.  I need to break him.

This isn’t going to be easy.

Here is the plan.  It requires me to get up an hour earlier.  <sigh>

1. Get up and walk Columbus in the neighborhood.  And by walk Columbus I mean if he pulls, I stop and wait for him to look at me for guidance as to what is going on.  We practiced this tonight.  I think it took us 10-15 minutes to walk from the parking lot to the track.  It should have taken 3, tops.

2. Bring Columbus home, put him in the mudroom, gather up Koda, and go for my mountain hike with Dot.  It will actually be nice to work with Koda again for a bit.  Dot usually walks her.

I’m not sure how long this is going to take but I’m hoping by the Canine Good Citizen class, which starts in August, Columbus and I will be on our way to the perfect walk.
